From personal experience... All the relationships I've been in, I never once have had to give up Yaoi. I've told all of them that I loved Yaoi and while there was those "Uh" and "Okaay" types tones in their voice, they were fine with it as long as I didn't go into too much detail with them.
I wouldn't want to give up on Yaoi, I couldn't unless I wanted to later on in life out of my own free Will. None of them ever told me that I had to decide between them or Yaoi... None of them ever asked me to.
I think it was mainly because they all had something of their own that they loved, but I hated... We all have our own differences, likes and dislikes. It’s all about communication with one another, knowing that unless it’s the problem with your relationship, then you shouldn't have to give up something you love when they don't... It isn’t fair, so just compromise at first to see how it goes. But as for now, I’m currently in a relationship and he is fine with me liking Yaoi just as long I leave him out of it, Hehe…
